Photo of the week – Cantalupo from Poggio Catino

Cantalupo from Poggio Catino

This photo was taken from the “belvedere” (viewpoint) on the main street in Poggio Catino. It’s worth a stop here on your way through the village to admire the view over the rolling hills towards Mount Cimino: olive groves, woods, valleys and many of the medieval villages of the Sabina. The main one visible in this photo is Cantalupo in Sabina.

Photo of the week – olives and oaks of the Sabina

Typical scene of the Sabine hills, olive groves bordered by oak trees. The Sabina has been famous for its olive oil since Roman times, and olive groves still dominate the landscape today.

In the background you can just make out the shape of Farfa Abbey on the mountain.
