Winter at Villa degli Armeni

Winter at Villa degli Armeni

Winter is actually a great time to visit Villa degli Armeni. The landscapes of the Sabina are beautiful at this time of year, softened by mists and lit by spectacular sideways winter sun, great if you want to do some photography.

You can visit Rome or other popular destinations without having to battle huge crowds and get more of a feel for real Italian life, as well as easily visit sites such as the Vatican or the Coliseum which often have long queues at other times of year.

Closer to home, it’s a great time for walks in the forest and mountains near the villa or down by the Tiber River, the weather is often sunny and while it is still cold here in the winter, it is not too cold to get out and enjoy yourself. And at the end of the day you can take advantage of our log fireplace and cosy up with a glass of wine or a cup of tea if that’s more your thing. Cheers!

Photo of the week – Cantalupo from Poggio Catino

Cantalupo from Poggio Catino

This photo was taken from the “belvedere” (viewpoint) on the main street in Poggio Catino. It’s worth a stop here on your way through the village to admire the view over the rolling hills towards Mount Cimino: olive groves, woods, valleys and many of the medieval villages of the Sabina. The main one visible in this photo is Cantalupo in Sabina.
